A pretty darn good place to shoot as an alternative to Mesa Arch in Canyonlands national Park is buck's Canyon just down the road. Had the whole place to myself for hours and hours early in the morning :aww: It was a terrible day for wind--60-70 M.P.H. gusts, dirt and rocks flying around but Buck's Canyon wasn't nearly as bad as some other places that morning.

I had to try a black and white  I'm never happy with them as I do them. I'd love to be able to do those richly toned and contrasted black and whites I see others do here on DA, but haven't found the magic powder that makes them yet.

Not much in the way of sky interest so Ileft it out in the composition of the shot. I like this better as it gives it some depth. Maybe I am wrong in that...I often am :D I may upload the color version in my scraps--or not. I might scrap this one and upload a cropped version...or not or I might leave this one. I dunno  Anyway, i'm done rambling on...

Dedicated to my good friend Karen :iconkarenfiore: She with the heart of gold, spirit of a tiger and talent of Ansel Adams :painter: And because she is just an all-around great person :aww:

first... who was buck?!?

second I love what you did with the horizon with this perspective. the eye flows into the canyon with ease. a wonderfully balanced comp John

 I don't know who Buck was but they named a canyon after him--mayhap like Clayton Ravine in Back to the Future

I'm glad you saw that with the horizon--I agonized for quite a while on posting it or not because of it and the large blank area on the lower right. I thought about cropping it but then it would have taken that long gouge out of the shot. All i can say is better framing next time

Thank you Dennis :)

lol well until told otherwise I am going with as tribute to buck owens!

I actually love how you framed this John. I think the area lower right allows the eye to grab the perspective.
