Cold Water by Corvidae65 Cold Water by Corvidae65
O.K. This is a 3 shot sort of HDR--tell you that right off the bat  One of the reasons I bought the D90 was for bracketing and I intend to use it to get the quality of images I want. This is one of the first images I've made with that feature. I'm not trying to pass it off as a single shot and I don't really care to get into a discussion about the sanctitiy of single exposure versus HDR. 'K? ;)

Anyway, I will also tell you all that this water is freakin' COLD! I thought the water would be a little cool and I wanted to get some shots from the middle of the stream so I waded right in...and then waded right back out again!  The water was so cold it hurt!

So, I guess you folks only get shots from the banks from me :lmao: I haven't found an outfit yet that makes waders in my size  I guess I'll have to man up and try Cabela's here. I hate to because they are $pendy

Anyway, thanks for looking, commenting and faving :thanks:

It doesn't look like the place for a gentle swim.

The texture of the water conveys its unstoppable energy.

I don't believe I'd go for a swim there  Heck, I won't even wade in there now

Thanks Alec :)

Not really brave--I really don't like water all that much except to photograph ;) Rushing water like this totally freaks me out so that tells you i really REALLY wanted that shot :eager:

...besides, I have my baby insured :aww:

Hi John!!!
I laughed when I read Jonathanīs first sentence...... But I so understand you!!
I do some madness myself now and then haha! And everything is valid to get a good shot!

I like it very much, seems there was quite a lot of water flowing down that stream :omg:
The browns and goldens, whites and coppers you achieved on this one are amazing. I donīt know
anything about HDR (just the basics), so I guess I can only judge what I see... and I think it is cool!

You just keep doing tests like this one... I will enjoy everyone! :glomp::wave::icontardglompplz:

Thank you Manwathiell

it's a very slight HDR effect--mostly just 3 merged images with some other tweaking added (can't leave well enough alone ya know? ;)) I got realy frustrated in the past with going out and taking several shots of the same thing only with different exposures just to get *one* image I liked, so this auto bracketing is really cool and saves memory on my computer when i upload...Plus I have the option of just working with one image if I want

I'll do a lot of things to get the shots I want except put myself (:innocent: )or somebody else at risk.

I know what you mean by the different shots with different exposures...
I sometimes didnīt get ONE I like haha!

Iīve decided to wait to buy a DSLR until I visit the US again.
Then Iīll have no customs problems to bring it with me!
(Iīll have problems to get used to that technology, though )

You do well, and better take care
Avoid taking sunsets while you drive, for example!!!

This is the one I use from time to time. It opensource software and it's free. I use it on my PC which has Ubuntu operating system. There is a windows version for free as well - check it out.

Hey there John! Lovely HDR work you did to it I love your subtle blending techniques!! I am too nervous getting my camera near rushing water, I am an accident waiting to happen lol, all I can say is be careful when going out! Im not sure if you have an local flea markets, but if you do, you might be successful in finding waders there...

Thank you Andrea :) I guess having the insurance helps my bravery meter peg out sometimes  It covers everything except fire or loss

No real flea markets here--there is Runnings, a farm and ranch supply store here i might check out for waders but i hold no hope for finding any in tent sizes

wonderful image!..very nicely done for your first one!..i'd stay out of the water anyway..the water looks too swift and would probably move your tripod around..plus, you are just flirting with disater taking your baby over water..stay dry, my friend:)

Thank you :) the water was pretty swift right here--and deeper than i thought but there was a section of shallower slower flowing water to the right of the main channel where i wanted to shoot.

I bought the insurance for my baby :aww: Mama didn't raise any fools--especially when I think about my fondness for falling :iconfallplz:

You`re a brave guy,you wouldn`t catch me wading into freezing ass cold water amidst slippery looking rocks with my brand new D90 :slow:
I wouldn`t have guessed it`s HDR btw John, some people prefer it not to be overcooked of course,so if that`s you, success brother!

I'm only as brave as my insurance will let me be :devilish: As long as I don't set fire to my camera or lose it somehow, I'm covered  Still, not sure it was worth the risk in this case

I do like a more natural HDR effect--the over-cooked HDR has it's place with the right subject though I think. Nature shots aren't usually the right subject though. Thanks brother :manhug:
