Dead Horse Point

Hand-held five shot horizontal panorama taken at Dead Horse Point near Canyonlands National Park. This is looking mostly west/northwest and is a little north of the actual point. Full View to see the detail.

I didn't know how this would turn out taken somewhere around midday and that made for some deep shadows along the canyon walls. I decided to shoot the pano to take advantage of the great sky that day.

Just over the lip of the canyon in the foreground it's maybe a 500 foot drop to the canyon floor and the Green River I wasn't as close as this might suggest--a little bit is cropped off the bottom in the stitching of the pano I was maybe 10 feet from the edge--my momma didn't raise no dumb sons and she sure didn't raise me to fly!

I never got there for sunrise while I was there--Dead Horse State Park is a mecca for sunrise photographers and usually over crowded long before dawn. Sunrises aren't my thing anyway--I wanted to shoot something different than everybody else with a camera. There is a parking area about a mile from the Point and a trail marked with rock cairns will lead you to nearly this place--you have to go off trail a bit to actually get to this place I was pretty much all alone on that trail as the point is the main attraction for the Park.
