Green River Overlook by Corvidae65 Green River Overlook by Corvidae65
Hi-dee ho folks!

This is a view from the Green River Overlook in Canyonlands Island in the Sky District--the end of the road, literally. I suppose you could go a little farther but the drop would be killer :D

A nice, clear day made for some nice shooting :camera: The sunrise was a bust that morning and the sky wasn't much until later in the morning, so I just shot the features I saw. This place is mind-blowingly huge. It's hard to imagine that most of the center of Utah is like this or even wilder! :wow: Can't wait to get back there! :eager:

This one is for a friend of mine named Chris :iconchildofstar: in Romania so he can see how huge and what this country is like in the wild, wild west :) I don't think he watches me but his wife does and she will make sure he sees :iconbiutz: Right?

 It's a lot intimidating to be alone in that vast land. Make me feel very small and insignificant in comparison, but also fills me with wonder, creativity and very appreciative of my life. If ever you get the chance to travel to Canyonlands I suggest going to this district--the Island In The Sky. It's probably the most accessible with the most scenic parking areas in all the districts and it is closest to Moab, Utah.

Thank you my friend

 You reminded me of Jonathan's story when he took a certain picture of a certain tree...
Good you didn't go farther.

One must feel an ant in the middle of such a landscape.
I've been like 5 times to Utah, and I never left South Jordan...
(We always go there in winter, not sure if I would see anything but snow then, anyway... )

(I had to check "further" vs. "farther" - I didn't know the difference and now I do!) ;)

Thank you Chris :)

The landscape there does lend itself to those old western movies  I wanted to go to Monument Valley while I was there and that place always reminds me of the old Road Runner and Coyote cartoons :D

that is true. The desert in Manitoba is a real dessert with sand and dunes, but most of it is out of bounds because it is used by the military. I have been to the Dakotas and Wyoming, and really liked the bad lands, they are very similar to two pockets we have here, one in Saskatchewan and one in Alberta. But somehow the desert is different, and some day I would like to spend some time there, more than just a visit. I sense a spiritual mystique about it.

Mt. Rushmore sits facing the rising sun--it's best viewed then and when there is alpenglow the granite is deep ponk in color instead of grey. Very pretty even without clouds. Somewhere in my gallery there is a coupel of sunrise shots from there.

Much like myself the desert calls to you  Much of South Dakota (where I live) and Wyoming is classified as 'semi-arid' and desert but it's not the same as this.

I see myself in a desert.... its like I have been there. There is a small desert in Manitoba, but nothing like I envision so it cannot be the same.

You have a lot of kickass shots there... Funny, while I was taking a shower tonight, I was wondering which way Mt. Rushmore sets to the sun... rising or setting. :hmm:

:stupidme: Dang it! and I forgot to take a straight pin and poke some holes in the tape on your webcam! :evillaugh:
:ashamed: and I also forgot to show you the beautiful book :reading: about Romania that Bia & Chris sent us in the last Fall Fun Package (two days to think of absolutely everything just isn't really that much time, after all!) :faint:
:iconlovenodplz: and believe me... when we coax them over on this side of the pond... you'll be one of the first to know! I keep telling Chris that they just need to rent a motorhome when they get here :D Of course, I think they would also have a grand time taking a trip with us in our motorhome... and we could all come to South Dakota! :iconwoohooplz:

You're right, Jonathan  it has to be seen in person to get the tru effect. not even 10 shot panoramas can fully tell the story of this land (:whisper: not that i took any of those ;))
