Description
George Washington, hero of the American Revolution and of the Constitutional Convention, was elected in 1789 to serve as this nation's first President. George Washington's first inauguration took place at Federal Hall in New York City. Keenly aware of the momentousness of the occasion, Washington accepted the Presidency and spoke of his determination to make the American experiment a success.
220 years later, the American experiment opens a new chapter in democracy and a new chapter in tolerance and racial equality with the inauguration of President Barack Obama, this nations first African-American President. I think George would be proud of us.
Dedicated to President Barack Obama--may he have the vision to lead us on for another 220 years.
