Hi-Dee-Ho, Folks!
Spring has sprung! Well, it has in SOME places anyway Seems like the weather is warming up some though we do have a chance of snow showers over the next few days. It doesn't matter to me though as I will take any and all precipitation for the next couple months to offset the nasty drought we've been in.
Spring fever not only has caught me getting out into the hills to at least look if not take photos, it has me thinking about planting FLOWERS for crying out loud! Well, it's not all springs fault--there are other guilty parties involved who, umm...planted the seed of a few flower plants. I won't mention their names as they are shifty people from Kansas If I had a shovelful of fertilizer, I'd throw it at them--and they would immediately put it THEIR garden!
Anyway, I went to Wal*Mart today to get a couple things and thought I ought to go back to lawn and garden to get a new oscillating sprinkler. Bad move, Johnny Boy! First thing I saw when I walked in was the flower seed display. "No harm in looking", I thought. Wrong! I spent a good half hour picking out some seeds--I wanted some really cool stuff to kill, er, umm...PLANT Then I got to thinking that the flowerbed where my irises live has been there a good 40 years and as far as I know has never been fertilized or had mulch or anything in it. Lord knows I sure haven't done anything to help it since we have owned the place and that's been 12 years, so I wandered out to the mulch part of lawn and garden. After consulting via text I grabbed 4 bags of garden soil mix with Miracle Grow in it.
So, I thought I was done. Feeling satisfied in my newfound green thumb I took a different route back and found myself in the bulb and live plant section Ohhhhh! I looked for almost an hour at all the different bulbs! I had visions of a massively packed flower bed with all kinds of flowers attracting hummingbirds and butterflies and me taking photos of all of them and everybody was deliriously happy! Ahhh! Paradise! A floral Utopia!
Then I remembered what I did for a living and saw the flowerbed in a different light--weedy, dry and everything but the irises brown, wilted and dead and I sort of snapped out of it. (for some reason, despite the lack of weeding or watering or fertilizing, the stupid irises always seem to live through it ) In the end, I got 10 gladiolus bulbs and some assorted seeds--lupine, columbine and wildflower mix along with the garden soil, oscillating sprinkler, weed digger thingie and a new sprayer end for the garden hose.
Damn...
Spring has sprung, but I know it is really just the start of the plant killing season for me and it's going to be a busy season
I say hang the sense of it and let's see some springy type features!
